The Upsteppers, roots reggae from Brisbane, get all dubbed out on the latest offering from Dub Temple Records. Quite appropriate in this case, since while the label promotes dub of all varieties this nice LP of analog stylee is a change of pace from their usually digital studio offerings: Upsteppers In Dub is methodical, echo-laden, traditionally-styled dub. Heavy and slow, pushing the entrancing qualities of the genre to the forefront, lead single (?) “Tanuki’s Side Of The Tracks” is available for free d/l via Soundcloud, and the whole album is streaming on Bandcamp. ”Seven Generations” is another standout track with beats emerging from the misty silence; finally, the leading horns of the closer “Rolling Tanuki Way” wrap up an impressive album.
